Nature bridge Crailoo

A former sand quarry is the site of the longest nature bridge in Europe (800m). Connecting heather and forest landscapes over a major road and rail yard, it is a corridor for flora and fauna as well as for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Water and islands with various heights and maintenance regimes result in a broad variety of nature types. A boardwalk allows visitors to observe the relationship between the land and level of the water. The remaining meadow area is maintained through grazing by Scottish Highland cattle. Existing sport functions have been recontextualized in order to accommodate the new bridge. A golf course acts as intermediary between the natural and cultural and forms part of the ecological corridor. An observation platform offers stunning views.
