The urban design for the Eastern Columbus District in Almere Port has received as a motto “Discovery”.
The staggered allotments ensure a lively street scene with dynamic vistas. A connecting element is the ‘kinderpad’; a car and bike-free path along which the central schools, a care complex and several playgrounds are located. This path is the backbone of a robust green network that branches out in to surrounding neighborhoods. The district is not just child friendly but sustainable. All dwellings are orientated towards the sun and the water system is designed according to ecological principles.
