Hoeve Terlinden

The Hoeve Terlinden monument is located in the municipality of Nuth directly south of and on the A76. The area around Hoeve Terlinden has been included as one of the highlights of the Corio Glana project, in which integral development of the Geleenbeek valley is the central theme.

The owner of Hoeve Terlinden, together with the authorities involved, wants to focus on estate development to look for new economic carriers in the rural area and opportunities to revive the monumental farmhouse and give it a suitable function. The conversion of agricultural lands to new nature and the design and renovation of the Geleenbeek are among the most important options.

In the first place, we want to restore and re-use Hoeve Terlinden as a national monument. With new construction we want to create new opportunities for re-use of the entire enesmble. We see opportunities for agricultural and rural tourism and residential functions. The old farmhouse in combination with new construction creates excellent conditions for this.

We also want the Hoeve to retain a meaning for agriculture. Given the ambitions of the Corio Glana project, it is less suitable for its current agricultural use. For the time being we are focusing on the transition to vine culture, but other forms of local quality products are also an option. Combination with the care sector can also be proposed.

spatial structuur

The main spatial structure is laid down in the landscape plan. The landscape consists of a number of strong ingredients:

forest on the plateau border.
vine culture on the flanks.
stream valley grasslands and wet forest along the Geleenbeek.
the buildings are integrated through landscaping with much rising greenery and a utilitarian character.

A system of forest and field paths makes the landscape accessible and experienceable. Hikers walk alternately through the forest, along the forest, through and along the vineyards, follow the stream and cross it in some places. The exposed cycle path along the Esschenweg will be nicer embedded in the landscape. A hiking trail that ran on old maps from the farm towards the stream and the Brommelermolen is being restored. This path runs between the old garden wall and the new building volume of the estate. A new gate in the garden wall can serve as a connection between the old farmhouse and the new building.

The plateau is compacted by native forest. The forest can develop a high ecological quality and gives the estate a robust space-forming structure that will form a strong landscape background for the farm and vine culture. The flanks get a relatively open character as a vineyard. The grape bushes are planted in a direction perpendicular to the contour lines, creating a strong texture and a clear orientation.

The plan provides for densification through forestry on the plateau north of the Ten Esschenweg. The forest to be planted here falls under the habitat type Beech-oak forests with Holly (H9120).

The forest will be very varied in structure and composition. This habitat type is important for a large number of birds from structure-rich deciduous forests.

For the future image quality of the farm, the planting of the yard and the layout of the garden and courtyard are of great importance. The garden used to be one of the striking eye-catchers of the complex. In the past there has been a pleasure garden within the garden walls of Terlinden. For the new design of the garden it is desirable to pay a lot of attention to the design of the courtyard and yard and garden. We propose to align with the regional and historical character of the heirs.
