Housing needs to be constructed in the western flank of the Haarlemmermeer, but water management also requires attention. The Province of North Holland asked project developers for creative solutions.

Vista developed an innovative concept for urban landscape development for AM Wonen: the construction of a dune relief in the polder. This is not only an effective manner of water storage but also a sustainable substratum for special living environments. The sand allows for large quantities of water to be stored, which provides for clean city water and less brackish seepage. The relief offers possibilities for compact residential areas with underground parking on the high parts and scattered rural homes on the flanks and in the low parts. Stacking residences and water storage facilities saves considerable amounts of space, meaning less capital is required for land acquisition.
