The master plan developed by Vista for transforming the former “’Grube Reden’” coal mine forms the basis for a wide range of new functions. Inspired by the special architecture and specific landscape characteristics of mining, an ambiance was created that attracts various cultural and economic activities.
The most important sub-areas are as follows: the campus with new businesses and cultural facilities, the water garden on the former switchyard that serves as a receptacle for rainwater and cools warm mine water before it is returned to the larger water system, and the former silt basin that is transformed into a natural lake which will function as a water buffer with an adjacent forest for the production of bamboo and biomass.
